New term, new diary

Let me fill you in on the new term and the new diary here at mbc.All 3 youth groups are kicking off this term with a weekend or over night away locally. These times are just great for building relationships within groups between children and young people with one another and with the leaders also. They are also great for increasing even darker shade of brown circle around leaders? eyes! One group had a great time away already and the others are waiting for February (which is actually only a day and a half away now!) We have also had meetings to plan and talk through, the next romance academy, detached youthwork, football coaching, youth cafe, cafe church, working with other churches to plan some girls work and boys work, to put some sessions together to prepare some of our year 13's for life at uni or away from home at least... and I feel tried just reading that list! We are all 3 really excited about the term ahead, for all that has been and all that is to come. I was reminded recently at a church leaders conference recently that our work is about the 'steadily' - working in the day in day out, but always looking out for the extraordinary in the ordinary, and to allow the 'suddenly's', the moments where the hours and ups and downs come together and you say 'that's why we do what we do!'

About the MBC youth ministry team

Steve Campion, Emily Davies and Ben Hatfield are the youth ministry team at Mutley Baptist Church.Steve is married to Rebecca and they live in Hartley, Plymouth. He grew up in north London, but thinks Plymouth is better. Steve’s three main hobbies are football (spurs), cycling and cheese.Steve’s responsibilities are as Youth Pastor (looking after the under 18s) Youth Evangelist (telling them about Jesus) and Youth team leader (helping the rest of his team to do the same). Steve is also part of the church leadership team.Emily is married to Andy and with three children and has lived in Plymouth for five years. Prior to that Emily spent 21 years growing up and living in Hertfordshire. She tends to keep quiet about the fact that she was born over the border in Essex! Emily supports and works alongside Steve in caring for and bringing out the best in the young people in their care. She also works at making contact and building relationships with teenagers in the wider Mutley community. Emily gave birth to 3 babies within 15 months! (There’s a brain teaser for a quiet afternoon!)Ben joined the MBC staff team with in September 2006. He had previously spent four months on placement with the youth team as part of his degree course and accepted Steve's invitation to to be part of MBC full time on graduating. Ben was born in Stevenage but grew up in Hertford. Coincidentally Emily (above) was his youth worker when he was twelve-and now they work together! Ben is involved with a variety of weekly activities at MBC but has special responsibility for 'detached' youth work in the area-simply getting to know young people in and around the Mutley Plain area.Click here to go to the MBC youth site
